A Spots and Stripes Handbag

Hi Everyone
Today it's Kathy here to share my project for hostess Debs' wonderful theme of
"SPOTS AND STRIPES"

What a classic combo spots and stripes are!  Everyone loves using them together, don't they?
There are loads of spotty and stripy collections on the Funk Hand CDs and also within the various download collections too, so we Funky Followers are never going to be short of some spotty, stripy inspiration.

Anice has also produced another wonderful freebie paper which you can use.  It is on the sidebar ready and waiting for you. The really exciting thing about this freebie paper is that it features all the colours on the brand new Rainbow Stripey Stripes Download collection - which, in turn matches is the perfect match for the Rainbow Polka Dots set which was launched recently for my project I've used the fabulous pale green colour from these two download sets and made this handbag card
To make this you'll need
Wobble card base template from Craft the Year Away
A4 sheet printed from Rainbow Polka Dots (Pale Green Vertical)
A4 sheet printed from Rainbow Stripey Stripes (Pale Green Vertical)
Flower Die or punches
Matching Ribbon
Brads, Gems or Dew Drops to match
small length of Bakers Twine
1. print  your wobble card  base and cut it out. Crease well on the fold line.
2. Fold the Spotty paper around the wobble card before you do any cutting or sticking to make sure it will fit perfectly. I'd then suggest you adhere one side first, then fold the paper over the crease and adhere the back of the "bag"
3. Cut away the excess paper to leave a card which is covered front and back.
4. Using the striped paper, draw around a CD to make the shape of the "flap", cut out, ink the edges and fold in half
5. Cut a length of ribbon sutiable for the strap, then adhere the ends to the plain side of the flap section before you stick the flap in place - this way the ends of the ribbon will not be seen on your finished card
  6. Now glue the flap in place.  If you will be using brads to decorate only stick the back down to start with;  leaving the front flap loose will allow you to hide the prongs under the flap then stick that section down later.
7. Make up your flower embellishment and fix to the front, add brads, dew drops or other bling however you like.

8. The cute little tassel is made by folding a scrap of the striped paper in half (or sticking two pieces together) so you end up with a piece about 4.5cms square.
Use scissors or a craft knife to "fringe" the paper, leaving about 1cm uncut at the top.
Now tightly roll the paper around a cocktail stick so that it begins to form the shape.
Cut a short piece of Bakers Twine - or other similar thin cord and fold it around the handle of your bag, make a knot to hold it in place then apply some glue (or narrow double sided tape) to the uncut margin of the tassel and wind it up again, but this time around the ends of the bakers twine.
Popping a little bulldog clip over the tassel will help keep it in place while everything sets and dries
That's pretty much it and I hope you like the idea - I'd love to ear from you if you have a go at this. It's just another way of using the Wonderful Wobbler template which is one of my favourites from the Craft the Year Away CD.

Now it's over to you, there are just a few more days left for you to join in with Debs' challenge,  Don't forget ONLY projects that feature at least one Funky Hand product are eligible for the prize - you'd be amazed how many people don't bother with that bit and its such a shame as their creations just won't be considered.

There are already some lovely Spots and Stripes projects linked via our linky gadget, but there's plenty room for more!
Thanks for popping in today, we've still got 2 more projects before the next Funky Fifteenth comes round, so please visit us again on the 11th and 13th to see what Anice and Lou have been making with Spots and Stripes.

Happy Crafting
Kathy xxx
