Deb's Beside the Seaside Beside the Sea

Good morning. It's been a bright and early start for me this morning as I have been on Grandma duty - Oliver came to sleepover last night - he is full of cold bless him but he has been sooooooooo good :-)
I think he's cutting his first teeth - ouch!!!!

Anyways it's my turn to share my DT project for Get Funky with you - actually my turn was last Wednesday but I was so disorganised that I hadn't got anything ready before we had a few days away - so the very lovely Lou stepped in and we swapped days - thanks again hun :-)

Paula has picked
AT THE SEASIDE
as the theme this time and here's my take on it:

I used the house digi stamp from the Colour Me Happy CD-Rom and made a row to look like beach huts. I paper-pieced them with papers from the same CD-Rom.

I also tore some papers from Colour Me Happy to represent the sea and sand and then using a cloud template made from a piece of card I inked the sky to with Faded Jeans DI to create some clouds - it wouldn't be the British seaside without a few of them now would it?

It would be great if you could join in the fun with us and show us your seaside projects.
Don't forget to use any Funky Hand product though to be in with a chance of winning this month's prize.
Here's where you can find this month's funky freebie - just in case you haven't already got any Funky Hand products!

Well best go and get Oliver his porridge.
Thanks for popping by.
Have a fabulous day.

Nice Big Ice Cream by the sea!

Hello Anice here and today is my turn to give you a little inspiration for this months Get Funky challenge from Paula At the Seaside.

I have to admit coming from the Midlands I didn't get to see much 'seaside' as I was growing up.  You don't get much further from the coast really!! What we did see tended to be pretty grey..Wales wasn't always very sunny!  I resisted using grey papers for my card as I thought that would be a bit horrid so I have created a really simple card with one of the main things I like about the seaside.  Ice cream!!

I used papers, digital images and the sentiment from my craft CD Craft The Year Away.  Those torn pieces of blue card are supposed to represent the sea crashing in onto the beach.... I'll let you decide if that's what it looks like!  I added a little bit of sparkle to my cherry topped ice cream using red skickles on the cherry and a couple of stick on gems on the chocolate scoop!

Here's a closer look..

It's a pretty simple card but to try to make it a little more interesting I layered each section up using different depth sticky pads so in real life it does have a little more depth.  I'll try to show you what I mean with this next photo.
I added the sea/waves to the card with flatter sticky pads and then topped the card off with the ice cream using much thicker pads.

Now, I hope all the cards that the Funky Hand Design Team members have posted here for so far this month have given you some inspiration or ideas for your card making.  I hope my simple card has made you realise that your card doesn't have to be some amazing creation to be welcome to be added to the site and entered into the challenge.  Everyone is welcome whether you are a new crafter just finding your feet or an old hand.

The only rule here on the Get Funky challenge is that you use at least one Funky Hand product on your card entry.  It's not a very big rule as each month I give you a completely free paper in the Funky Freebie section of the downloadable collections on my website www.funkyhand.com just use that, if you don't own any Funky Hand products yet, and you can be in with a chance to win your choice of any of the Funky Hand download collections.

We love seeing your creations and visiting your blogs so don't wait any longer get crafting and join in with our challenge now!
Looking forward to meeting you on your blogs!
Anice xx

Betty's off to the beach with Lou!!!

Morning peeps!!!!

Its Lou and Betty here to do our bit for Paula's At The Seaside theme for this month. So, grab your Funky Hand papers ( not forgetting the fabulous funky freebie if need some funkiness!!!) and think colours of the sea, sand, rock pools, icecreams, lifegaurds, tight buttocks in tight speedo's........oops did I loose track there?? ;)

Now ya'll know how much Betty and I like to play and she had a little word with me and said she needed a good beach holiday!!! so I printed out some beautiful papers from 2 of the papercraft factory cd roms, they are completely easy to use as they stay on your pooter without having to load a disc every time and are so easy to swap and change through editions that you end up with a mahoosive pile of yummy papers!!

A good degree of ripping paper for sand and a snip with little mo's wibbly scissors for sea and the background was ready, now all I needed was Betty to get out of the changing room and into the waves!!
I stamped her out, chopped off her heart choccy box and gave her a lovely big beach ball to hold instead. She asked for an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini so I gave her one ( he he he he!! had to add the song, bet ya'll sing it all day now!!!!!).

Betty's beach towel on her chair is a scrap of Tea's up paper!! she just had to have a polka dot towel too, a girl needs accessories you know!!!

So get your funk on and join in with the challenge this month and
PLEASE REMEMBER......you must use at least one Funky hand paper on your creations and entries.

Hugs from Lou.....and Betty of course!!!!!!!

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside ...

Hello everyone, Katina here with my first contribution to a Get Funky challenge! And what a great challenge Paula has set!
At the Seaside

I love the Funky Freebie Anice has designed this month, so I just had to use it for my share today. I'd been looking through some old holiday photos and decided to make a photo frame. The little girl in the photo is my eldest granddaughter, Molly.

To make the frame I printed the freebie onto white card and cut the striped panel to measure 5.5x5.5" and then cut a smaller square from the centre. This can be any size you choose. I used foam pads to attach it to a 6x6" piece of white card. I trimmed the photo to fit inside the aperture and then added the embellishments around the edge.

I cut a strip of card, scored and folded near the top and glued to the back of the frame so that it would stand up. I hope Molly likes it!

We'd love to see what you make this month but remember to be eligible for a prize you
MUST USE A FUNKY HAND PRODUCT
If you don't have any Funky Hand products you can download this month's Funky Freebie here
Better still, why not browse the full range of Funky Hand products on the website here and treat yourself to something fab!!

I never realised how nerve wracking it would be writing on a blog other than my own! So now I've done it I'm going for a lie down, lol!!
My fellow Funkettes, who've made me very welcome (thank you!!) will be posting their amazing creations throughout the month, so don't forget to keep coming back to see what they've done.

I look forward to seeing what you make

Announcing the brand new Funky Challenge for August 15th

Hi there Funky Friends!

Paula here to tell you that it's my complete pleasure to take up my turn in being your hostess this month and to welcome funky friends old and new to the brand new challenge that will run from today (Funky 15th August) to 14th September.

I joined this fabulous design team in February and absoloutely love being a Funkette - and have the best design 'teamies' in blogland. So, as all is fair in love and war, it has become my turn to choose this month's challenge - so I thought I'd go with a theme that is dear to most of us (young and old):

 AT THE SEASIDE

sneak peek
I don't know about you, but when I think of the seaside, it conjours up all sorts of smells, sights, sounds - AND colours. So this is what I'm looking to see from you this month: Colours that remind YOU of the seaside...

Those colours, I'm sure, will be different from one person to the next. Some will think of the sand, some of the sky (or both), for some it might be the colours of some of the yummy ice-cream flavours available, fluffy candyfloss, stripy rock, the bright colours of the fair rides, fishing boats, buckets and spades, old fashioned deck chairs, wind-breakers, Punch and Judy show... I could go on as this is not an exhaustive list of ideas. The colours we use can be quite different depending on our experiences, which seaside resort you go to - or went to as a child and whether that was in good ol' blighty or abroad (ooh - the colours of the caribbean just came to me!)  Or what about a Spanish holiday or other holidays in far flung places... (i'm day dreaming now)....

Right, before I show you my card - if it's OK, I just have a little reminder and a small request if I may (please)...

The 'Get Funky' design team, quite naturally of course, want to see loads of stunning entries each month - and believe us - we DO see some incredible entries month in month out (thank you all). However, unfortunately, we still receive entries that haven't taken into account our one teeny weeny request - and that is to include at least ONE Funky Hand product in your project - which is such a shame because we even provide a free download each and every month. This means that we aren't able to take into account those projects that don't comply at the end of the month when we are at the point of considering the winner(s) - and after all that hard work you've done too - how miserable and disappointed would that make you feel? :o(

So if you are reading this and are raring to join in this month and still don't have one of Funky Hand's many CD's - just use this months freebie as your one element for now (then you can go and buy a CD or instant download afterwards), and work round it using other products you already have in your stash - just as long as there is at least this one FH element. Phew. Sorry if I sound like a broken record!!!

Anyway Funky friends, I hope you didn't mind me pointing that out - we're not finger wagging people here at Funky Hand cos crafting is all about fun - It's just that that one ickle point needed to be made for when you make a card or project for the challenge!!!

Right, without further ado, here is what I enjoyed putting together for this months challenge using colours that remind me of the seaside - and that is (a bit obvious mind), the sun, sea and sand. I've also used digi's from the Papercraft Factory CD's Colour Me Happy, Dreams Come True and Craft the Year Away.   All three of these CD's have some quirky, but very useful digi stamps on them - I mean, where else have you seen a bucket and spade or a smiling sunshine as well as an icecream cone (and a football boot - see my last DT challenge card) together... N.B. these are not necessarily off the very same CD - but are from the same Papercraft Factory collection of CD's. Nonetheless, these little digistamps are all available and have some fabby uses - some which you haven't thought about yet!!

ta daaa:

I've used glossy accents on the bucket and spade, although it hasn't showed up in this pic.  The bucket and spade - if you notice, are printed over the DP's - but have you noticed how the spotty one is proportional to the bucket?  Thats because in the workspace area of the CD, I have shrunk down the DP as far as I could behind the bucket - then all I had to do was cut it out.  If i'd have left the DP at the normal size - there would have been about one or two spots behind it!!!  Amazing what you can do with that Papercraft Factory programme!  I did two more buckets and spades like this - one of the other sets can be seen on a further card on my own blog post that co-incides with this post.

All the papers used on this particular card have been made using the same three Papercraft Factory CD's too - but as a massive fan of Funky Hand before I was on the DT - which was a 'dream come true' for a fan to be offered a position on the DT (pardon the pun and reference to one said CD!), I was (and still am) the very proud owner of all the other CD's that Anice had brought out including the very first one she took to C&C 'The Funky One' (the other ones I bought from her website or had them on pre-order chomping at the bit until they were released!!!

Before you miss out on some of her original (and equally fabby) work, you may be pleased to know that a limited amount of the original CD's are still available for sale on the website - so please hurry and grab yourself a bargain, because once they've gone, they've gone. Unfortunately, there will be no more production runs of them once they are sold, making room for new and exciting future CD's. (n.b. as a fan, I always found that they're all a great resource for masculine backing papers too).

I felt the need to add the ice-cream in there and of course the sun in the beautiful blue sky because of course it's ALWAYS like this when one goes away (she says with fingers crossed - tee hee!!!).

bits and juice anyone!!

I've paper pieced the ice-cream balls/lumps/blobs scoops, then used glossy accents all over them (which are available HERE on the website)...

The eagle eye'd amongst you may have noticed this:

well, I just had to start singing while I was making this card - so of course - It would have been rude not to have added those words in for a bit of fun (I defy you not to sing it... go on, you know you're going to... see I said you would! tee hee) lol.   Awwww, now I want to be beside the seaside instead of sat here in my conservatory - {{shouts "get the camping gear ready dear, we're off"!!!}} Sad to say, it doesn't quite work like that - boo!

By the time i'd finished my challenge card, I was on such a roll so I couldn't stop there - oh no, I made a further two cards on the 'seaside' theme - but i'll put them on my own blog rather than take up too much of your time up here (what do you mean I already have????) I reckon by now you're ready for the off, searching for your FH CD's in order to join in ((waving)).

However - if (sadly), you don't own a Funky Hand CD, Anice has kindly designed the freebie below just so that you can download it and join in with the funky fun... or go HERE if you want to become the proud owner of a CD which is like a library of funky, colourful designs at your fingertips.

Just about every other day from now, one of my fellow Funkettes will post their inspirational take on the challenge - so please remember to come back and see look at what they've done- just to get your creative juices flowing...

Right, that's (almost) enough chat from me - but just to recap.

PLEASE:

a) use at least one FUNKY HAND product (it would help if you would just mention what it is - to help us and other readers of your blog too)

b) link your challenge entry post (not your whole blog) to Mr blue frog (inlinkz) at the foot of EACH post throughout the month

c) make sure that your challenge entry (recognisably) meets with the challenge theme

d) ensure that your entry is posted BEFORE midnight on 14th of the month (in this case 14th September)

e) don't backlink to a card you've posted before and only one entry per person please

and finally

e) have funky fun, fun, fun creating your challenge entry

Please remember to link your funky entry to the blue frog (bottom of post)

Thanks for reading and good luck in the challenge - i'll be round to comment on all entries that meet with the rule of the challenge.

Cars Cars Cars..well boys like them!

Hello everyone, Anice here with my contribution to this months Get Funky Challenge set by Ruth.

Boys Boys Boys

I decided not to go with blue for my card but head down the burnt orange road......

Ha! see where I was going there..burnt orange road..oh well. I thought about all the boys I know large and small and they all love cars so I thought I would base my card on what they love.

The striped paper that I have used as the base card is taken from the Orange October Collection on the Funky Hand craft CD Craft The Year Away. The topper is made up from two digital stamps from the same CD. I inked around the edges of the topper to make it stand out more but I still felt that it needed something else so, I decided to cut a circle out of the topper so you could see more of the striped paper underneath..

I then decided that I would use some ivory coloured twine that I have to tie through the hole..suddenly I was threading the same twine in to my big needle and I was stitching down the opposite side..

Anyone who reads my blog posts knows I'm not much of a sewing goddess so I really don't know what came over me!! Though with twine rather than thread I think it looks abit more grungy and more acceptable for a boys card.

So there you go my contribution to this months Get Funky Challenge. We'd love you to be inspired to join in with us this month and you are running out of time now as the next challenge starts on the 15th but if I can get a card made then so can you ! All you need to remember is to include at least one Funky Hand product on your creation. Don't worry if you don't own any Funky Hand products just yet, I wont hold it against you and you will find a Funky Freebie Download on my website www.funkyhand.com to help you.

So what's keeping you from your craft table? Join in with this months challenge and have a chance of winning a free Funky Hand download of your choice.

I can't wait to see what you create. We all love visiting your blogs and reading your comments so don't be shy..everyone is welcome to Get Funky!

Boys Rule at Get Funky

Hello Deb's here today it's my turn to share my take on Ruth's BOYS BOYS BOYS challenge here at
Get Funky this month.
I have used a digi image from Funky Hand's Craft The Year Away Paper Factory CD-Rom - available here
together with this month's Funky Freebie - available here
After printing the image and 'coloured' it with a Versamark pen and then heat embossed with Silver and Clear Embossing Powders to give it a metallic look:
Don't forget that you must use at least 1 Funky Hand product to qualify for the fab prize being offered by Anice this month.
No Funky Hand Product - No Prize

Please scroll down to see the other wonderful inspiration from my lovely Funkettes buddies.
Da Boss Lady herself (Anice) will be back in a couple of days with her own project for your inspiration.
It would be great if you could find some time to join in the fun with us too.

Have a fabulous day.

Kathy's Birthday Boy

Hi there, Kathy here today with my project for Ruth's  Funky Fifteenth challenge
BOYS, BOYS, BOYS

I've used the free, limited edition paper that Anice very kindly provided for us this month - it matches the "Jovial Man" collection from the Papercraft Factory CD "Colour me Happy" so I've used a couple of designs from there too.

On this month's freebie you get the design I've used on the main panel of my card, plus a variety of sentiment labels, some stars and some funky arrows too
To make this card;
I printed a piece of the freebie paper to make the centre panel and matted this onto Kraft card.
Using the download and the crop tool on my pc I cropped one of the labels close to the edges of the design, then resized it to print out at about 12cms wide.
This was then matted onto blue card
Next I chose a couple of designs from the  "Jovial Man" collection ("Colour me Happy" CD). Using the workdesk facility in Funky Hand's Paper Factory software means you can really reduce the size of the paper you print and get teeny tiny designs like these.
For the stars I cropped the freebie page down and printed out the coloured stars, then used one of these as a pattern to cut some from the "Jovial Man" patterned ones
I made buttons from the same papers using my Craft Robo but I could just as
easily have used punches.
The stars and buttons were backed with bits of scrap card for strength and dimension
materials: Funky Hand papers, sentiment panel and stars,
blue card, kraft card, green button twine

There aren't many days left now till the next "15th of the month" rolls around,  but you've still got time to get your own project made and linked to the blog - it would be lovely
to see you playing along with Ruth's challenge .. ..
Just remember you MUST use at least one Funky Hand product
on whatever project you make - I know we keep saying it, but you'd
be amazed how many people don't do it  - and of course that means
they won't be considered when it comes to choosing the winner of that
free download Anice offers each month :-(
The fabulous freebie makes it sooooo easy to join in even if you don't have any other Funky Hand goodies to use - so no excuse, really!
Well, that's all for this time, but do come back soon as Anice will be along in a couple of days
to share her own Boys, Boys Boys project
Happy, Funky Crafting

Boy oh boy!

Hello Funky Hand fans! I hope you're all set for a fantastic weekend! If you haven't already then you really should have a play along with us! Ruth set the challenge this month which is...

'Boys, boys, boys'

And, judging by the quality of entries we've had so far, you are loving this one!

I've made three very clean & simple cards this month...

I've used elements from this month's fantastic funky freebie, the black version of the Rainbow Stripey Stripes downloadable paper, some Alpa-bits from Tea's Up!, a spiral punch & some patterned metal dot embellies!

If you'd like to have a play & show us your boy themed creation then please see the post here for all the details.

That's all from me for this month - another teamie will be along before you know it (in a few days time) with some more inspiration for you!

Stay Funky!

BOYS, BOYS, BOYS... Paula's Turn

Hi Funky Hand Fans

Hope you are enjoying the weather we've been having these past few days - and oops to those who haven't had it so good - I've not checked the weather forecast so hope you get it better soon!!!

Right, on the Funky Fifteenth, our Ruth kicked off this months challenge with the theme

'Boys, Boys, Boys
(See Ruth's original post here).  In addition, you were provided with this wonderful freebie:

to enable all those who don't own anything by Funky Hand (where have you been?) to join in.

Here is my offering this month - which incorporates one of my two boys' favourite colours - orange!

The football boots are digi stamps - from the 'Craft the Year Away' CD, the strips of black are from a patterned paper from the 'Darkness Lifts' collection on the 'Dreams Come True' CD, and finally the blue checked pattern is from the 'Jovial Man' collection from the 'Colour Me Happy' CD.  All the strips were cut using my guillotine cutter.  The sentiment was generated in the workspace area of the Papercraft Factory programme using the 'Impact Label' font.

I cut the circles out using a small circle cutter tool - being careful to use it with my glass cutting mat.

The football boots were printed out on a sheet which had already been printed with a different shade of orange design paper - from the 'Orange October' collection from 'Craft the Year Away' CD - although you may not be able to tell that much; I then went over parts of the pattern with a blue promarker then added black embroidering cotton for the black bootlaces.

To construct my card, I placed the coloured strips down first on my 8"x8" card blank, next I placed the orange, larger circle down - which I'd already matted with the smaller blue circle.  The black 'laces' were fastened at the back of the smaller circle, then stuck down individually so they weren't swinging around!

I hope you enjoyed my card and it has inspired even more of you to join in this month's challenge brilliantly kicked off by Ruth on the 15th.

If you have a card to enter into the challenge - please use the inlinkz facility at the bottom of each post this month.  Please remember though, if you wish to take part - you must use at least ONE element from Funky Hand in your card - be it the design paper - from a CD, a download - or using a freebie supplied in the past - or even from this month or a digistamp.  If possible - please mention in your post where abouts (i.e. which CD etc) you got your paper/digi from.

Most of all, thank you for reading my DT post - and hope that you can join in if you haven't already - and if you have - good luck!!!
